First flying bike

The world’s first flying bike, XTURISMO hoverbike, made its debut.

The world’s first flying bike named XTURISMO hoverbike has been developed by AERWINS Technologies, a Japanese startup, and made its debut in the United States on Thursday at the Detroit Auto Show.

As a boy, Shuhei Komatsu, the CEO and founder of AERWINS Technologies, used to love Star Wars movies. “I wanted to make something from the movie real,” Komatsu said. “It’s a land speeder for the Dark Side.” The XTURISMO hoverbike can fly for 40 minutes with a speed limit of up to 100 kph (62 miles per hour).

The hoverbike is already on sale in Japan and a smaller version will be available in the US in 2023 for $777,000. Shuhei Komatsu, the company’s CEO, told Reuters that the company hopes to get the cost down to $50,000 for a smaller electric model by 2025.

Thad Szott, the co-chair of the Motor City’s auto show, was one of the first to take a test drive.
“I mean, it’s awesome! Of course, you have a little apprehension, but I was just so amped. I literally had goosebumps and feel like a little kid,” he said.
